What's in the box of data backup?

Many of our readers have expressed concern that their existing data protection solutions aren't fit for the newest cyber security challenges such as AI tools.

In other words, the days of having a data protection plan consisting of a jumbled tapestry of point solutions is no longer likely to secure your business. New tools and vectors are being unlocked by creative hackers - and even AI tools themselves!

In fact, using multiple data protection vendors increases the likelihood of experiencing a cyberattack by 44%. Many cloud backup vendors also have complex terms, retention rather than genuine backup, a lack of recovery capability, and very basic protection provisions. Worse, in multi-cloud environments, vendor native protections are limited to their own products, leading to lack of comprehensive backup, centralised management, or efficient cost management.

What's the answer?

Let's call a spade a spade - backup isn't the most glamorous topic for IT professionals, and it's hardly likely to win you a promotion or even any plaudits. On top of that, the backup market is a crowded one, and cutting through the advertising slogans, vendor jargon and sales buzz is not an appealing task. Getting through the marketing and looking what's actually required to build a backup approach to meet today and tomorrow's needs is the trick.
